The Way to La Casa de Todos Step 2: Taking the Bus from Cancún to Mérida

From Cancún to Mérida on the Bus:
When you arrive to the Terminal de Autobuses ADO, Cancun Centro, check the schedule for buses to Merida the next day. It is not necessary to buy your tickets ahead of time as they run every half-hour and there are usually plenty of seats. There are two options for bus travel between Cancun and Merida. Choose accordingly:
The first option is ADO First Class bus service to Merida. This is a direct bus trip on a luxury bus with bathroom, movie, and luggage service. Fare runs about $30 usd and the trip takes about four hours, stopping only in Valladolid at the half-way point. However, the first class bus station in Merida (CAME) requires a taxi ride to the Sitio de Taxis Ixil/Chicxulub some 25 blocks away for the most budget trip to Chicxulub Pueblo. But if you are just going to take a taxi anyway, this is a good way to get to the front door at Posada Chicxulub, (Calle 14 #100A between 19 y 21). The taquilla (ticket booth) in bus station offers taxi service at a set rate for your destination ($450 pesos), but you can probably negotiate a better fare outside on the street ($250-$300 pesos during the day/ $350-$500 at night).
Second Class bus service to Merida is offered by ORIENTE, and terminates at the Second Class “Noreste” bus station on Calle 50 (Calle 67 between Calle 50 and 52), which offers four buses a day to Chicxulub Pueblo; but it is so very near to the “Sitio de Taxis Ixil/ Chicxulub Pueblo” on Calle 52 x 69 y 71, which offers shuttle service in passenger vans for $16 pesos. The vans wait until they fill up before leaving, and you can ask to store your luggage or packages for a $5 peso tip. This is far cheaper than taking a taxi, and will become your regular form of transportation, but taking a taxi from the bus station will surely help you to get acquainted with the area, particularly after a day of traveling on the bus.
